The landscape near the Dangkor landfill is changing. For years, this area has been defined by the challenges of waste and poverty. However, a new structure now stands as a symbol of restoration. We are thrilled to announce that the Waste to Hope workshop is officially set up and operational.
Rooted in Jesus Village
Location matters. We intentionally built our workshop directly adjacent to Jesus Village, the housing project within the Green Bethel Community ecosystem. By placing our operations here, we are not just a business operating in a vacuum. We are neighbors.
The primary goal of this workshop is to provide a sustainable financial engine for the community. The revenue generated from our upcycled products goes back into supporting the families here and the local K through grade 8 school.
A Team Effort from the Ground Up
What makes this workshop special is not just what we produce, but how it was built. This was not a project handled by outside contractors. Instead, it was a collective effort.
The youth and young adults from the Green Bethel school and Jesus Village were involved in every step. From the initial construction to the final setup, these young leaders rolled up their sleeves. They did not just help with the building; they were instrumental in testing our upcycling procedures. They experimented with the plastic and aluminum, helping us refine the methods we now use to create our keychains and souvenirs.
Pride in Every Product
There is a unique sense of ownership in the air. When the locals look at the workshop, they see their own hard work. There is a deep pride in knowing that the discarded materials from the landfill are being transformed into something beautiful right in their own backyard.
As we move forward, we carry the spirit of Galatians 6:9 (ESV): “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” This workshop is the first harvest of many. It is a place where “waste” is given a second life, and where the people of the Green Bethel Community find new opportunities for a bright future.
